For a 96 POINT, new Napa Cabernet from the visionary team of Heidi and Russell Bevan, this is lunacy! If you like BIG, polished, layered, utterly hedonistic Napa Cabs…Russell is your winemaking spirit guide. This beauty flashes and pops, and gets gloriously up close and in your face like paparazzi – and with every sip, you feel more and more like the celebrity you are! The fruit hails from three stunning Napa vineyards – the legendary Haynes vineyard in St. Helena, the prized Sugarloaf Mountain on the southern end of the Vaca range, and the Phelan Ranch. Now, the first two are certified legends, but if you haven’t heard of Phelan Ranch…you will. Just planted in 2019, this sprawling hilltop site atop Mount Gregg overlooks Lake Hennessey and completes a lovely little powerhouse triangle of Howell Mountain and Pritchard Hill, sharing similar volcanic soils and impressive elevations. The result is all-in-all INSANE – with plush and lush bramble berries and cherries, loads of spice, tobacco, and warming, soul-filling notes like cardamom, black pepper, Cuban cigar, and vanilla, then rounded out with a rigid spine of graphite and crushed gravel, flecked with cedar shavings and exotic black truffles. A Cult-Cab in the making, no question – but with a total production of only about 150 cases, don’t expect to find this just hanging around your local grocer. It’s RUSSELL BEVAN, for Pete’s sake!
