I am just continually floored by how KILLER the Molino Bros’ wines are. They are the Mick \u0026amp; Keith ROCKSTARS of Piemonte in my book – and the tippy-top BEST bang-for-your-buck single-cru BARBARESCOS to be had…ANYWHERE! Seriously, did you taste any of their 94-point 2021s?! This raises the bar another notch – with a profoundly CLASSIC and queenly expression of Nebbiolo – and Barbaresco – at its penultimate best! If you’re looking for benchmark “tar \u0026amp; roses” classicism, with the fresh and modern uplift of red raspberries, and Morello cherries, with softly roasted herb notes of lavender and thyme, and this cinnamon-spice infusion that carries you through an enchanting cedar forest, where black truffles linger under the wild forest duff – well then…grab your hood, Red – to granny’s house we go!!! I mean…that PRICE!?!?! 2022 is one of the driest and warmest years in Piemonte’s recorded history – and at the end of it all – this was the PERFECT year to be a small, nimble grower, with high-elevation, old-vine vineyards that produce simply jaw-dropping clusters of tightly-packed Nebbiolo goodness. So ethereally elegant, and soft, with this sensuous milk-chocolate fountain of silky texture, and this bright orange peel acidity – utterly compelling stuff, here, people! Ausario is based on 70 million year old soils – former marine deposits, layered as chalky, sedimentary rock, and interspersed with clay and grey marl uplifted into one of the region's pristine hillsides, ideal for Nebbiolo magic. MAN!! This drop-dead stunner really has it ALL, astonishing price, unbeatable pedigree, the hyper-cool Molino family, and mostly this OUTRAGEOUSLY good, silky, packed, and infinitely rewarding Nebbiolo.
