About this wine
VOERZIO is back!!! 97 POINTS! We’ve been LOVING the Voerzio family for years, but a chance encounter about a year back has changed the PIEMONTE game for all you nebbiolo lovers here on Last Bottle. If you love Barolo as much as I do (is it even possible?), you need to FLY!!! Alberto Voerzio is a rising star in Piemonte, and this new Barolo just might be his jet pack to superstardom. The cousin of one of Barolo’s favorite sons – Roberto Voerzio – he has a lot in common with Roberto’s impeccable CRU BAROLOS…we just so happen to have it a stark-raving mad deal of UNDER $50!!! From what is being called one of the GREATEST of great vintages for Barolo, no less! Wine Spectator rated the vintage 95-98 points, and Vinous Media's Antonio Galloni mused, "At the very pinnacle of excellence, the finest 2021s are compelling and profoundly expressive of place." BOO YAH. After yet another day of vigorous Champagne tasting (1982, 40+ years on the lees Chigny-les-Roses…are you kidding me?) BAROLO was just what the doctor ordered…complete with the red cherries and rose petals, then the iron and asphalt, and bringing the spice on the finish with green peppercorns, and this silky, mouth-filling finish that sticks the landing like Simon Biles in her prime! My word is this good – easily worthy of the $125 price…but TODAY?! Now?! You’re talking UNDER $50!!! YES! Ok, if you haven’t already leap-frogged over to secure a 6-pack, for Pete’s sake, read quickly!!! Voerzio’s Castagni bottling hails from a 1.7 acre Cru in the heart of La Morra, set on this blue-grey fractured marl and clay soil, with plenty of quick-draining sand to concentrate the flavors. Some 1,500 feet up on one of La Morra’s stunning hillsides, this plot is biodynamically farmed painstakingly by Alberto’s hands, and the yields are TINY! Classic, INTENSE, and utterly captivating…and if you scored last year’s bottling…this is somehow – if you can even believe it – even BETTER! This simply alluring expression of Barolo is sure to leave you drooling – and while most Barolos with the name Voerzio attached will set you back a couple hundred bucks, this 97 POINT marvel delivers all that pristine pedigree for just $49!!! While it lasts!
