About this wine
Sell out alert!! More Barolo in the house...... 96 POINTS for a singularly ROCKING new Barolo, by the supremely talented Alberto Voerzio, hailing from the ICONIC La Serra Cru atop of La Morra...YES! Expressive. Seductive. Captivating. Commanding. And that’s just a sliver of what the critics have to say! If you’ve been buried under a football field of rubble for the past several months, let’s just say we’ve been LOVING these Voerzio family wines for some time, but a chance encounter about a year and a half back has changed the PIEMONTE game for all you Nebbiolo lovers FOREVER here on Last Bottle. We’ve been snatching and grabbing, hoarding and sharing all things Voerzio like they are going out of style – when in truth, they are on the rise like never before!!! CRU BAROLO… from a site revered for its aromatic elegance, and chalky, age-worthy, simply CLASSIC Barolo texture…that we just so happen to have at an INSANE deal of UNDER $60!!! La Serra is the very highest of the high of La Morra’s hillsides, and the wines just might be the metaphorical peak of the mighty Cru as well. I popped this little beauty at 9 am in the office on Friday, and the explosion of roses, lilacs, and peonies jolted me to life like a quad espresso injected into my eyeballs! I came back an hour later, and it was even better, with luxurious sandalwood, and red cherries, milk chocolate, orange zest, and even some spiced raspberries coming to life. The first sip was EPIC, with an intensity of fruit and florals that all perfectly settled into a sweet, dusty earthiness, where crushed gravel and pulverized chalk give this a foundation of immense complexity. The finish is regal, and long-lived, and I had a sneaking suspicion…it wasn’t done yet! So I corked the bottle and snuck the rest home…and a full day later…BINGO! It’s everything it was on day one…just…MORE. The tension had relaxed gracefully, like the muscles in my back after a beer at the 19th hole. Just…aaaaahhhh! I’ve no doubt this could last twenty or thirty years, easily…and at this price, you’d be sage to snag a few extra for cellaring, but if you just can’t wait (life is short, after all) you’ll still be rewarded with the best Barolo I’ve tasted so far this year. Sure, that’s only out of about 30 Barolos in total – but trust me…22 of those we’re bangin’ and this one was still the unquestioned winner! UNDER $60 is a STEAL on this beautiful Barolo – especially when almost anything with the name Voerzio on it typically sets you back $150 or more. Grab more than you think you’ll need, and revel in your wisdom for years and decades to come! Go get ‘em!
