A-X-R, good people! Under $30 and simply MESMERIZING! AXR has rapidly made a name for itself in Napa Valley and beyond…in no small part thanks to 100-point winemaking legend, Jean Hoefliger. The winery might still be a relative newcomer to the Napa scene, but the historic property has cranked out LEGENDARY wines for over 150 years. Now, with Jean leading the charge, the wines are the best they have EVER been – and to score this Prop Red (technically, it COULD be called a Napa Cab – 75% Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way here…), but this Prop Red way, way less than half price is a screaming banshee of a deal, y’all! Adding in 15% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot from vineyards in the Oak Knoll District, Yountville, and Coombsville – this medium-weight beauty is Mariana-Trench level depth combined with a James-Joyce worthy complex masterpiece that artfully blends tons of boisterous and BOLD Napa Cab character with the peppery personality of Left Bank Bordeaux. A racy and vibrant expression awash with juicy blueberries, blackberries, and ripe plums, then tinges of wet stone, dried herbes de Provence, creme de cassis, and shavings of rich, dark chocolate. Flecks of pipe tobacco and cool graphite are infused throughout every layer to bring this all to a long, silkier-than-suede finish that is altogether entrancing and soul-warming in every way.
