I’ll never tell — but let’s just say that when it comes to late-night negronis and Champagne in the Piazza delle Erbe, after a full day of vinous indulgence at the all-day marathon that is VinItaly…it’s probably best not to try and negotiate with the hardcore pros that are your Last Bottle buying team! We come to win…and now, the glory is all YOURS!!! I mean, TRIPLE 94 POINTS, and the reviews all seem to point to one eternal truth…this baby is just getting warmed up!!! Two, ten, TWENTY years from now, you can count on this little baddie impressing the pants off of any Barolo lover on planet earth, or whatever planet in the solar system we’ve colonized and invaded by then. The PERFUME!!! Hypnotic, enigmatic, and absolutely trance-worthy. You almost — ALMOST — don’t want to even sip this godly ambrosia, so stunning are the aromas that fill the glass and beckon any passerby to beg for a taste like my golden retriever as soon as my dinner hits the table. Lavender, and rose petals, with crushed sage, and dried herbs, accenting this core of baked cherries, and warm blueberry pie…MY WORD! The first sip is tight, structured, and sends you reeling like a tungsten morningstar to the helm. (What??? I used to train for the melee for my dream job at Medieval Times.) As air does its alchemy, the wine reveals a medley of cherries, and spiced mulberries, with exotic and tropical elements of rambutan and dragonfruit, and this gorgeous array of cedar, balsamic, clove, orange peel, nutmeg, and MORE! The more air you give, the more this evolves — affirming you have DECADES left of unrivaled pleasure in every bottle.
