About this wine
And POOF! We need back-ups, on back-ups today! Dropping south from the Right Bank run we've been on...let's check in on GRAVES, shall we? 94 POINT Bordeaux greatness! A 17th-century estate, reborn into one of Graves’ brightest shining stars! “I loved the 2020 Château Couhins…” - Jeb Dunnuck Same, same JD. Alright, soon-to-be-weekend warriors, Château Couhins is BACK! Show of (virtual) hands…who scored some of their BRILLIANT White Bordeaux we featured back in May? Simply electric, right? Welp, faithful Bordeaux lovers, guess who just SCORED their killer GRAND VIN de Graves Rouge?! WE DID! Huh-to-the-zah, good people! Under $30, too? Man, the hits just keep coming – like Gaga and MTV VMA nominations – and if you are ready to be blown away by the intensity, the purity, and the flat-out impressive complexity of one of Pessac-Léognan’s BEST…your ship has come in! Hailing from a vineyard that has been prized since the 17th century, this gravelly and rocky parcel of alluvial perfection was elevated to GRAND CRU status in 1959, when it was owned by the same folks behind Château Calon Ségur, and used for the past several decades as a top site for viticultural exploration by France’s National Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment Research. They painstakingly mapped out the soils, and re-dug the drainage outlets, and systematically re-planted plot-by-plot over the decades with a careful selection of varieties, clones, and rootstocks – taking careful note of each and every detail imaginable to create a literal fount of information aimed towards keeping Bordeaux at the forefront of quality and innovation in the entire winemaking world! Now, with a stunning new cellar, visitor center, and state-of-the-art winery – Château Couhins is making some of the finest wines in the region…just…like…THIS! Crazy bright, and vividly fresh – this beauty EXPLODES out of the glass with zippy cherries and currants, floral flourishes of violets and roses, and this warm and soothing sensation of mocha and cinnamon, wrapped up in the heady clutches of iron and salt, and a sort of sanguine meatiness. It’s captivating stuff to be certain – and really just now starting to shine at five years young. The finish is precise and poignant – with a taut intensity that flows silkily across the tongue. 94 POINTS, people! This is only going to get better over the next several years – but my glass drained in NO TIME at all, so you don’t need to wait another minute! UNDER $30 and a full 62+% OFF makes this a no-brainer…and we’ve got BARELY enough for this back-up, so do not delay! While it lasts!
