Château Durfort-Vivens Le Plateau Margaux 2022

About this wine
When one of this country’s Founding Fathers declares this estate one of his TOP 4 favorites for world-class wine — you’d better listen! 94 Points, OVER 50% OFF, organic, biodynamic, brought to you by the iconic Lurton family...let’s go, MARGAUX! Like McIlroy at the Masters, Durfort-Vivens is BACK!!! A world-breaking deal on this flagship estate, and one of Last Bottle’s tippy-top BEST Bordeaux finds of the last decade. This is their beloved “Le Plateau” bottling, which uses prime plots of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (84% Cabernet Sauvignon with 16% Merlot) from the Soussans area of Margaux — known for its round, seductive fruit style, and its less-than-a-mile proximity to the iconic Château Margaux. And…I gotta tell y’all…IT ROCKS!!! I mean…when…just WHEN do you ever see wines from a Grand Cru, Second Growth, Margaux producer at a price anywhere near this deal? A flat $40 for a wine such as this?! Jaw-dropped, phaser set to STUNNED! The historic Chateau Durfort-Vivens stayed in the same family, passing down from one generation to the next over SEVEN CENTURIES!! Eventually, in 1961, they were snatched up by their neighbors at Château Margaux, run by the heralded Lurton family that would eventually keep this to be the flagship estate of their modern-day portfolio. Centuries prior, America’s first wine expert, and cherished Bordeaux connoisseur, Thomas Jefferson (third president of the U.S., too, but never mind that…) ranked this stunning GRAND CRU estate just after famed 1st Growths of Lafite, Latour, and the aforementioned Margaux! None too shabby, methinks! This 2022 is simply PUMPING with violets and lilacs, buttressed with firm graphite and wet stones, and plenty of earthy sage, exotic spice, and a medley of dark bramble berry and stone fruit character. Damson plums, black currants, black cherries, and this wild blueberry and cola note…just lip-smack, tongue-staining stuff that is here to PLEASE! Low sulphur use, and around 30% aging in amphorae gives this that perfect one-two punch of wild intensity and creamy elegance, and a faint tobacco and black olive character makes this primal and savoury across the long and brilliant finish. Classic Margaux at a price that is so decidedly NOT Margaux it is staggering. ONLY FORTY DOLLARS!!! This is tremendous stuff — and you’re gonna want to LOAD UP at this epic price! 94 POINTS! While it lasts!
