About this wine
Guess who’s back? CLOS ALBERTUS and their simply stunning 95 POINT Grand Vin...all for less than $30 a bottle! Clos Albertus curtain call, ladies and gents! If you scored some of this several months back, you surely SWOONED as I did – and we’ve got JUST enough left to start off a slow Sunday! One of the biggest surprises out of Bordeaux (and most delicious) in all of 2025 for me and the Last Bottle buying team – and now heading to the land of the lost, where mythical, delectable BEASTS go to roam forevermore! The entire estate is less than 4 ACRES – and that 95 POINT review absolutely nails it when calling this 2020 beast “a very impressive showing”! 40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 30% Cabernet Franc – this is everything you might want in a Bordeaux blend…and guaranteed to outpace other big-name Bordeauxs at four times the price! A simply intoxicating bouquet of candied violets and blueberry pastilles, with a hint of crayon wax, lavender, and red currants. Can something smell COOL??? ‘Cause this most certainly does…cooler than Liam Neeson auditioning for the role of a man who’s been wronged and must reluctantly dust off the horrifying and deadly skillset used in his former life. Yeah…THAT cool. Just peep what Master of Wine, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, had to say about this rising star… “For many years, areas on the peripheries of prestigious Saint-Émilion—known as the satellites—have been considered the poor cousins. But in 2016, a group of eight wineries decided it was time to change that view…The tiny 1.5-hectare estate of Clos Albertus…was a real find for me at this tasting…the potential to take on some of the more famous Saint-Émilion estates in the future is clearly there!” I mean, right? RIGHT? Under $30? For THIS?! The flavors are taut, mineral, and intensely concentrated – exceptionally age-worthy and complex like tippy-top 1st Growth Bordeaux – at a price that just defies all logic and expectation! Brilliant now, with a few minutes of ferocious swirling like a madman, but with the ability to age for several decades yet! I cannot stress this enough – this is elegant, powerful, gorgeous, and compelling stuff! 95 POINTS and worth way, way more than a mere TWENTY NINE DOLLARS!!! The 2020 vintage turned out some absolutely STELLAR wines in Saint-Émilion – and the best producers were those who managed the extreme heat and dry conditions of the vintage. Set on the right bank of the Barbanne river, on the uppermost northern edge of the appellation – Clos Albertus is one of the coolest sites in the region…and this beauty has me break-dancing for another sip! Over 50% OFF on an already great steal?! YES!!! While it lasts!
