Any Italian wine expert will tell you, Nebbiolo rules the north, Sangiovese sits on the throne in Italy’s heart, but in the south, here is where Aglianico is KING! If you like juicy, deep, lip-smacking, tongue-staining wines...have we got a wine for you! It’s fresh, and absolutely crushable with pizza, but structured, powerful, and remarkably age-worthy. FOR $15, I swear this will make you a believer! From the volcanic slopes of Mount Vulture, and made at the family’s estate for almost 100 years, this is the power of Napa Cab, with the juicy fruit-forward appeal of Zinfandel, and some Etna Rosso-esque volcanic nuance tossed in for good measure…just a stunning combination that you can’t replicate ANYWHERE at this price point! DOUBLE 90 POINTS — but I’d bet my favorite Irish hat — if this were scored blind, and the critics didn’t have the bias that goes with lower-priced, Southern Italy wines…you’d see another three or four points added on, E-Z!!! Just read the reviews and ask yourself…does that SOUND like a 90 pointer? I’ve seen 95+ reviews on Napa Cabs that were far less gushing, and vastly more negative than those below…so drink like you’re in Naples, and enjoy La Dolce Vita with a glass of THIS! Dark, lush, and devilishly complex, this 2022 leaps from the glass with blackberries, huckleberries, and gorgeously ripe red cherries. Uplifting aromatics of camphor and rosemary, with smoldering sage give this a wild and enchanting facet — like a coastal hike in the morning fog. Delicate spice notes complete the total package here — little flutters of cinnamon, and star anise floating atop a crushed volcanic gravel baseline. It’s better than good, y’all…this is simply ASTOUNDING for the bonkers price we have today! I somehow keep saying this almost every year — but this is my favorite Aglianico del Vulture yet! I’m taking down this whole bottle — balanced perfectly with a pepperoni and spicy sausage pizza drizzled with hot honey — and I’m certainly loading up on truckloads more to survive the summer! Daily drinker pricing, with cool Somm-stumping background, on a volcanic-grown, Italian royalty sort of pedigree??? What more could you possibly want?! While it lasts!!!
