To quote my second favorite Dylan of all-time, “DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT!” (For added effect, imagine it spoken with vigor by fellow Welshman, Michael Sheen.) No, my Last Bottle brethren, this Monday is all about leaping once more into the breach, and raging, RAGING against the dying of the light! Dylan’s Ghost — if you don’t recall — was a teeny-production, CULT favorite Napa Cab conceived by Joseph Carr (of Josh Cellars) and the LEGENDARY Aaron Pott (ahem…Troplong Mondot, La Tour Figeac, Quintessa, Seven Stones, and more!). Following a chance meeting, the pair bonded over everything from music and poetry (like Dylan Thomas), and even European football — basically everything BUT wine. For nearly a decade, the wines were fiercely collected and harder to track down than an actual ghost — before vanishing entirely in a devastating move that gutted Cult Cab lovers everywhere. But NOW? Today? Aaron Pott’s protégé, and KILLER Stags Leap veteran winemaker in his own right, Robert Smith, has pulled off a vinous seance, and brought Dylan’s Ghost back to the earthly realm…and, wouldn’t you know it…this flat-out ROCKS!!! Robert worked hand-in-hand alongside Aaron for years at Stags Leap ICON, Quixote, and who better to carry on the legacy for the next generation?! The fruit is inky black, and fabulously rich — with the sort of heart-racing and frenetic opulence that you’d expect of a caffeinated hummingbird. This 2023 is a velvet-lined, charismatic BEAST, people. It hits you with a sensory rampage of crushed blackberries and cassis, with chocolate-dipped cherries, and crushed raspberries, alongside some intoxicating floral notes of lilacs and violets. Savory and meaty notes of black olives, hoisin sauce, and scorched earth lend this a fair amount of gravitas, but the silky and polished finish is pure Napa elegance all the way! A new take on a cult classic, and sure to be every bit as collectible…especially at our INSANE under $40 price! But fair warning: Like a ghost in the Napa fog, this 98 POINT baddie is going to VANISH.
