Edge Hill Red Blend Mixed Blacks Napa Valley 2018

About this wine
EDGE HILL! One of the most historic properties in Napa, going all the way back to 1867! Less than a decade after Napa’s FIRST EVER winery, Edge Hill came onto the scene…with an original property deed verified and signed by Honest Abe Lincoln, himself! We’re winding down the most EPIC Spring Marathon of all-time, but you just KNEW we had something special planned for our send off! EDGE HILL is just such a producer — utterly historic, INCREDIBLY limited production, with TONS of critic and industry insider hype, and the sort of pedigree few estates can match! (Plus they were just sold to the folks behind Memento Mori — and rumoured to become an even CULT-IER destination.) Against all odds, we have scored a cache of just over a dozen different wines — snatched straight from the winery library, and headed your way today at simply NEVER BEFORE SEEN pricing. These are cult-y, incredibly rare, and highly allocated bottlings — that only a few lucky souls have either acquired directly from the winery or traded for with the fiercest and most in-the-know wine collectors out there! Welcome to the UNDERGROUND!!! Founded by General Erasmus Keyes following his heroic efforts during the Civil War, the property was later owned by Louis Martini and eventually sold to Leslie Rudd (Press Restaurant, Rudd Winery, Dean \u0026amp; DeLuca, and more). He turned the estate from a passion project into a CULT POWERHOUSE — and his era is what we’re showcasing for you today! The estate vineyard just south and west of Saint Helena was going to be another Cab vineyard — but thanks to the wisdom of David Ramey and Paul Draper (Ridge) — Leslie honored the history of the valley with a “mixed blacks” planting of Zinfandel, Carignane, Mourvedre, Grenache, and Alicante Bouschet. And like that — one of the greatest Mixed Blacks in California history was born! This 2018 was selling at the winery for $150 a bottle — and only a few hundred cases were made…EVER. And it flat out ROCKS in ways you can scarcely comprehend…with the sort of depth and concentration, and impeccable layering that seems nearly impossible to find in a single bottle of wine. But OUR PRICE?! A full 74% OFF?! And UNDER $40?! Mic DROP!!! It's deeply spiced and brambly, with jammy red and black berries a’plenty, and alluring oak spice notes of vanilla, clove, and black pepper. The wine is juicy, and racy, and delightfully in-your-face-y…this baddie is like if The Prisoner made a single-vineyard, ultra-premium bottling that was picked slightly less ripe, and fermented fully dry, with a better quality of oak for aging, and the sort of high-end winemaking of a top-end producer…can you even imagine such a wine? Welp, I just tasted it. And it is GLORIOUS! The fresh-picked plums, and my sister’s blue-ribbon winning mixed berry pie (OC Fair 1993 Best In Show, baby!), and the sort of lip-smacking, supple finish that holds on forever! It’s a vibe…and it’s a LOT. But at this UNDER $40 price? Like MJ’s slam dunk from the free-throw line, my friends! Booooo-yeah! Go get some! More to come!
