About this wine
Sell out Alert!! Let’s keep this Easter Sunday rolling….. 94 POINTS! 60% OFF! La Massa’s BRILLIANT Tuscan red is BACK! “Best of all, La Massa is a terrific value. The 2021 is one of the best vintages yet from this estate. I can't think of too many wines in Tuscany that offer this much quality for the money.” - Antonio Galloni Let me save you some time, Tony G…there aren’t any!!! LA MASSA! Did you get some when we blew through an entire shipping container back in April? Are you ready for GLORY?! Another few pallets have landed, and this is a DEFCON 4 deal alert !!! UNDER $25?!? YES!!! When it comes to ultimate value and never-ending quality in a Super-Tuscan form…La Massa reigns supreme. Giampaolo Motta in the house, good people! The Naples-born, Bordeaux-obsessed, Tuscan raider rebel behind this 94 POINT beast of a Super-Tuscan!!! He roasts Chianti’s Black Rooster on a spit for breakfast, and then pumps out epic, terroir-driven cuvees from his stone-fortress winery in Panzano that’s fashioned like a Ferrari V-12 engine block all before lunch. Did you see that PRICE?! Are you kidding me?! We got new stock in the warehouse, good people – but it won’t stick around for long! BEST PRICE in the USA? You bet! Run, sprint, breakdance – I don’t care – just move like the wind to grab some of this…STAT! I LOVE this wine!! This powerful, seductive, supple beauty is definitively Italian, and yet completely unique – much like the man himself! . And…as ever…the critics can scarcely contain themselves… “Delicious fruit…followed by complex savouriness…” “Layered and dense with a velvety texture...” “the 2021 La Massa is superb…” SUPERB!!! The winery’s SRP of $60 is stunning enough – as this routinely outpaces, outperforms, and OUTLASTS plenty of Super-Tuscans that sell for $125++ – but to have that, TODAY, for a full 60% less? Crafted under the careful guidance of Bordeaux’s brilliant Stéphane Derenoncourt, too?! You know, the 100 pt. earning winemaking phenom that Wine Spectator once hailed as the “world’s hottest winemaker”?!?! I’ll say it even louder this time…INCONCEIVABLE!!! Violets and rose petals, with black cherries jubilee, and notes of red plums and black currant jam. The flavors are deep, penetrating, and incredibly luscious – all framed by this rigid structure of iron and crushed gravel. There are savory aspects of roasted meats and charred fennel, too, adding to the wildly complex and incredibly luscious raspberry, cinnamon, and newly polished leather on a finish that lingers longer than the Roman Empire. You all LOVED the 2020 – and that was undoubtedly epic – but this 2021…!!! It’s just…more. More fruit, more mineral intensity, more balancing freshness and brightness, with an increased cellaring potential that will last two decades or more…E-Z!!! This continues to be not only one of the tippy-top BEST under $25 wines in the world, but one of the best for cellaring, too!!! If ever there was a case worthy purchase…LA MASSA is the one! 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and the quickest little dash of Alicante Bouschet and Petit Verdot – all from glorious Chianti! Giampaolo (but when you’ve drunk as many bubbles together as we have, we call him GIAMPAGNE!) is the quintessential black sheep of Chianti and on the short list of Italy’s most charismatic vintners. Born in Naples to a family with a leather goods business, he made his way over to France for the prerequisite high-fashion schooling – only to fall in love with a French oenologist in Bordeaux. He soon realized he loved Bordeaux wines even more than the girl – and an enduring passion and a dream were born! In 1992, he bought the La Massa property in Chianti’s Panzano region – the first fully ORGANIC region in all of Italy. He quickly tired of his dealings with the tyrannical Chianti Classico Consorzio – and began grafting much of his sangiovese over to his cherished Bordeaux varietals. The unique soils and micro-climate allowed his vines to thrive as never before – and with the addition of prized Bordeaux winemaker, Stéphane Derenoncourt, in 2008 – La Massa climbed the ranks to become one of the top Tuscan estates in the world!!! We tasted a whole slew of these incredible La Massas (don’t you dare call them “entry level”!) at the winery last spring – and even after 2+ decades they were simply GORGEOUS! You’d best snag this 94 POINT stunner while we’ve got some – before the dreaded tariffs came about! It ROCKS! Whatever are you waiting for??? WHILE IT LASTS!!! ** EASTER EGG ALERT: Take a look at the back label for a little jab at the Chianti Classico Consorzio. When Giampaolo opted to leave the organization in 2002, they added a little graphic of the region’s famous Gallo Nero (black rooster) tied up and spit-roasted over an open flame. Cheeky, right? **
