About this wine
Brunello, I love you. DOUBLE 93 POINTS and priced to fly — this is the sort of pop anytime Tuscan wonder that we all need on the regular! MONTALCINO! The ancient hilltop fortress village, and ancestral home of the beloved, powerful, and stylish Sangiovese Grosso grape! If you’ve been with us here at Last Bottle for any amount of time — you know that Brunello di Montalcino is one of my favorite wines in the entire world…full stop! The selection process, and limited yields, then the rigorous aging requirements — this is one of the more labor/time/$$$ intensive wines you can make in Italy. And the price and scarcity typically reflect all that…typically. But…NOT TODAY!!! We wheeled, and dealed, and absolutely stealed (yes, I know that is not a word…save your emails) to bring you this stunner! PALAZZO RIVOLO in da HOUSE! The best part?! ONLY $35!!! Can you even imagine? That’s like pulling up the pump in California and finding the price for a gallon of premium under $3! With critical praise like this baby’s got? INCONCEIVABLE! James calls it “classic and complex” and…yep…can 100% confirm. It’s delightfully tart right out the gate — a perky, invigorating RUSH of cherries, cranberries, and raspberries, too — all delicately drizzled with a fine Modena balsamico. With a few rough and tumble swirls of the glass, these drop-dead gorgeous aromatics of violets, and medicinal herbs come to life, followed by this dusty graphite and terracotta clay, and the lingering note of Luxardo cherries that carries you into a silky yet grippy and indubitably intense finish! It’s a whirlwind of a Brunello, aged for five years prior to release, and yet — miraculously — as fresh, and vibrant as you can possibly imagine! A beautiful dark ruby, utterly incandescent shade of black cherry to its core…with the sort of delicate weight and surprising power that you’d more often associate with a Cru Barbaresco. MONTALCINO has done it yet again! At our simply epic price…this is a no-brainer of a magnitude usually reserved for a zombie apocalypse. Ok, y’all need to go grab some already. And I need a bit of peace and quiet to enjoy another glass! While it lasts!
