For 97 point Brunello from a vintage that will go down as one of the all time GREATS?! I’m gonna have to break out my boy Vizzini’s favorite word…INCONCEIVABLE!!! World’s Best Price — and folks, it ain’t close on this baby! $92 is the current next best price in the entire USA…and even if you booked a flight to Rome, rented a car, drove for three hours to the ancient hilltop fortress of Montalcino itself, found a place to park, and THEN walked into the famed “Enoteca di Piazza”...you’d still pay $91!!! So when I tell you to FLY to your cart, grab as much as you possibly can, and then come back to read about this absolutely EPIC Brunello — you know why. Consider yourself warned!!! Ok…got some? Like at least six, and preferably a case or more? Good on ya! This world-class Brunello estate just nabbed another 100 point score for their flagship Le Lucére, and this entire portfolio is PUMPING like 70s-era Schwarzenegger in the grand 2021 vintage. You are about to find out why Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate called this stunning and idyllic estate “home to some of the best boutique Brunello today…” No longer merely an “estate on the rise,” San Filippo is a fire-tested, completely singular ICON of Montalcino and beyond…to the point that its famed neighbors of La Serena, Biondi Santi’s TENUTA GREPPO, Barbi, and more are going to be starting to reference San Filippo to mark the location of their own vineyards! In the few short years under Roberto Giannelli’s leadership, the estate has absolutely transformed. Super consultant and Tuscan LEGEND Paolo Caciorgna guides the winemaking, with the day-to-day under the watchful gaze of young phenom Thomas Bianciardi. We’ve taken every last bottle that Roberto would set aside for us these past couple years — and the quality just seems to ratchet up a notch or two year, after year, after year! UNDER $50 on a 97 POINT ANYTHING befuddles the brain…but for the costly and cult-y GEMS of Tuscany’s best?! Truly INSANE! Dei Communali are the estate’s oldest plantings, just down the slope from the winery and cellars (and overlooked by the amazing guesthouse I stayed in for three blissful nights back in September!) This fruit tends toward the more approachable and softer side of Sangiovese (at least relative to the lower-yielding and steeper plantings of Le Lucére), but in the CLASSIC and guaranteed LEGENDARY vintage of 2021 — you get that unbeatable one-two-three combo of sensual elegance, luscious fruit, and imposing and ageworthy structure! YES!!! The wildflower medley of violets, and lavender, then oodles of cherries, and plums, with spicebush elements of cinnamon and clove, leading into delightful little POPS of blackberries, and orange peel, dusty graphite with a layer of slowly-baked terracotta…WOWZA! What a wine! What a DEAL! Having this at the BEST price anywhere on this planet hits like a meteor — but with glorious and memorable FALLOUT that will shake you to your core for a generation to come! 97 POINTS! Under $50! Hello and goodbye to this world-class BRUNELLO! While it lasts!
