I visited just DAYS after the last fruit from Le Lucére was plucked from the vines, and the 2025 out of tank, midway between wine and juice – just a surreal experience! 22 hectares of stunning Tuscan beauty, just towards the base of Montalcino’s hill, and only a quick jaunt to the top of the old fort. Super consultant and Tuscan LEGEND Paolo Caciorgna guides the winemaking, with the day-to-day under the watchful gaze of rising star, Champagne-born, Tuscan-raised, absolute phenom that is Thomas Bianciardi. For my money (if this was something you could actually bet on…), he’s one of the tippy-top BEST young winemakers in the world today. And this 2020 proves it! Do you like roses? And violets? Silky and spicy black cherries, with crushed blackberries, and plenty of minty freshness? OF COURSE YOU DO! This is aromatic, and elegant, and completely knock-you-off-your-feet powerful! Normally $150 – but only HALF that today? This is just now coming around at 5 years in…with easily two decades of utterly happy-making joy, joy, JOY still to come. Crazy low yields, and stressed out vines, and this cracked and inhospitable clayey, schist-y soil that runs down a steeply sloped hill – the vineyard of Le Lucére is far from a paradise. It’s a proving ground – where only the strong survive. Some of the best Brunello you’ll ever taste is the happy result – and we’ve got this newest release at the best price in the world! Seriously – you could fly to Rome, rent a car, drive over 2 hours to Montepulciano, park and walk into the village wine shop…and STILL pay almost $140 for a bottle of this!
