Tenuta Ghiaccio Forte bringing the GLUTTONY to this Fat Tuesday! The “Fortress Under The Stars” estate in Maremma, along the southern coast of Tuscany, has me SHOOK, y’all! I tasted this last fall, at the simply STUNNING Castello di Romitorio estate in Montalcino – but when they told me about their ancient Etruscan fort, atop a solitary hill, surrounded by forest and rivers, only 10 miles from the Tyrrhenian Sea – I knew I had just added a stop on my next Italy trip. The Sangiovese vines make up 11 hectares of the 100-hectare estate – with 25-year-old vines planted with utterly TOP-NOTCH clones taken from Montevertine, Biondi-Santi, and Il Poggione!!! I mean, C’MON!!! It’s fresh, and bright, and simply bubbling with zippy and tart red fruits, crushed blueberries, and wild herbs, and this volcanic minerality that really makes everything POP! It’s complex – but absolutely CRUSHABLE…and we even suggest serving this with a slight chill. If you love classic Tuscany, but also love the high-toned vibrancy of an Etna Rosso – congratulations!!! You just found your new house wine. It’s fun, and intense, light, and feverishly spicy – just an EPIC bottle of cannot-get-enough goodness through and through!
