About this wine
POGGIO SALVI has returned! Good people, Brunello-loving people...get your eyes LOCKED IN on this! 93 POINTS, and the best price on the planet for a Last Bottle favorite Brunello that you can knock back on the REGULAR at this cray-cray price! The Last Bottle crew has landed in force to take on VinItaly next week, and you better believe that Poggio Salvi’s Luca Belingardi is gonna be one of our first stops (and not just ‘cause he keeps a fridge stocked with ice-cold Champagne...)! We’re talking about 50% OFF world-breaking, price-defying, value-optimizing BRUNELLO of the highest order! Let’s go! Tall, poised, and blessed with cheekbones that would make Adrian Brody blush, Luca has taken his family’s Montalcino mainstay to EPIC heights in the somewhat surprising, and fully approachable 2020 Montalcino vintage. These folks are way, WAY up there on Montalcino’s famed hill, looking out over Bolgheri and all the way down to the Tyrrhenian Sea, some ten miles away, and only a few hundred feet from some of Brunello’s most cult-worthy producers (ahem, Castello Romitorio, anyone?). This ideal location was especially relevant in the warm and dry summer of 2020 — making for cooler, sleeker, EMINENTLY drinkable expressions of Brunello that we can bring straight to your doorstop and at one unfathomably low price! I mean…ONLY $30?!?! C’MON!!!! You can’t find prices like this in ITALY, for Luigi’s sake — much less anywhere in the good ol’ USA! At a time where most estates in Montalcino have their entry-level ROSSO at the sort of price point we are talking today — you can get all the careful aging, and precision blending, of the estate’s top parcels…bountiful, bodacious BRUNELLO!!! This 2020 version is far more open and generous than the 2019 counterpart — and I ain’t mad about that! Cola notes gush out the glass, with red plums, and baked cherries jubilee, with a lingering smoky incense of rosemary, thyme, and sage (all of which I found growing wild throughout the vineyards on my most recent visit to the estate). A heady balsamico richness coats the tongue, and softens the grip of these high-elevation tannins that give this such magnificent structure. Cedarwood and orange peel finishes it all off — and be forewarned — this glass disappeared furtively, and went down suspiciously easy…so be sure you grab a few extra bottles as back-ups. I mean, BRUNELLO di MONTALCINO for only $30?! Almost unheard of. And when it comes from our good friend, Luca…trust me when I say you can’t afford to miss this!!! While it lasts!
